About Me

The first thing to note here is that I tend to be pretty authentic, which means speaking my mind and being who I am.  In that spirit I would like to own that this photo is now authentically old and therefore flattering.  I feel no pressing need to replace it.

One of the first things I noticed when beginning therapy as a qualified Psychologist was that there is a lot of content to some therapies.  Although this is immensely helpful in many ways, it also makes the beginning of treatment quite stressful for both the therapist and the client as both struggle to keep all the key things in mind and develop a shared understanding.  With this in mind (and with some serious cajoling and kicking-up-the-bum from people around me) I started to create cards to help with this.  Initially, these were just doodles on laminated A4 paper that we used at work, but people had been encouraging me for years to share my doodles, so I took the leap and here we have it: Bear in Mind Psychology!

My cards are designed to be succinct (because who has the time for waffle, really?) with memorable doodles.  It is also my intention for people to see themselves represented in these doodles, so the illustrations celebrate the diversity I enjoy in the world around us.  They’re not perfect of course, and there are groups I haven’t included (at least partly because my drawing skill is a work in progress and I don’t know how!) but I’m striving to improve this all the time.  We all deserve to be seen and recognised.
